What is Meta Description? – Definition
Meta Description is an HTML attribute that is displayed in the search results and briefly describes the content of web pages. And even though since 2009 these tags are not considered to be a Google ranking factor (as opposed to: title tag), it is still worth ensuring their good quality.
Meta description tag is aimed at increasing users’ interest and consequently improving the click-through rate (CTR) of a given page.
Meta Description – How to Prepare It?
- make sure your meta description is of correct length, i.e. between 150 and 160 characters – otherwise there is a risk that your description will not be displayed in full,
- provide substantive description that encourages users to choose your website,
- keep in mind that each page of your website has its own meta description,
- make sure that meta description includes keywords and phrases that attract attention to a given product or service.
